Muktha V. Srinivasan was a Tamil cinema director and producer, born on 31 October 1929 in Malapuram, Tamil Nadu, best known for co-founding Muktha Films and directing over 43 Tamil films across four decades. His debut directorial Mudhalali (1957) won a National Award presented by President Rajendra Prasad, and he went on to direct commercially successful films including Polladhavan (1980) with Rajinikanth and Sigappu Suriyan (1983) starring Rajinikanth, Radha, and Saritha. He was particularly associated with landmark Tamil comedy films such as Thenmazhai, Ninaivil Nindraval, and Bommalattam, and also produced Mani Ratnam's acclaimed Nayagan (1987). Beyond filmmaking, he served as President of the Tamil Film Producer Council, President of the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce, and Chairman of Film City, shaping Tamil cinema's institutional framework until his death on 29 May 2018 at age 88.
