• They first shared screen space in Heera-Moti (1979), a film that was originally meant to be a solo vehicle for Danny. Shatrughan was brought in last minute to add muscle to the cast after the producer got nervous about the budget.
• In Do Ustad (1982), Danny played the quiet, brooding brother while Shatrughan was the loud, flamboyant one. Danny later admitted that Shatrughan's bombastic style forced him to underplay every scene — which actually made his performance more intense.
• Despite playing rivals in Zalzala (1988), the two were close off-screen. Danny once said Shatrughan was the only co-star who would call him at 2 AM just to check if he'd eaten dinner after a long shoot.
