• Their first film together, Panchavarnakili (1965), was a sleeper hit that convinced producers to pair them again. Before that, neither was a guaranteed box-office draw as a lead pair.
• Jaishankar once said in an interview that Vijaya was the only co-star who could match his speed in dialogue delivery. He claimed she never needed a second take, which pushed him to be sharper on set.
• Their 1974 film Roshakkari was one of the earliest Tamil films to openly tackle the theme of a woman's sexual agency. It sparked debates in magazines and inspired a wave of 'bold woman' roles in the mid-70s.
• Despite 29 films together, they never had a reported fallout or even a public disagreement. Crew members from the 70s recall they would often share the same makeup van and discuss family matters between shots.
• Jaishankar once told a fan magazine: 'Vijaya is the only heroine who made me forget I was acting. With her, I was just a man in love.'
