• In Hum Paanch (1980), Mithun was already a star after Disco Dancer. Raj Babbar was still finding his footing. The director Bapu paired them specifically to give Babbar a commercial push — Mithun agreed on one condition: Babbar's role had to be equally strong, not a sidekick.
• On the sets of Mar Mitenge (1988), Mithun would deliberately mess up his lines in the first take to make Raj Babbar laugh. Babbar, known for his intense method style, would get annoyed — and that irritation made his angry scenes more real. Mithun called it 'method acting by prank.'
• After Hum Paanch wrapped, Mithun gifted Raj Babbar a gold chain with a small disco ball pendant. Babbar wore it under his costume for years — even in serious films. He said it reminded him to not take himself too seriously.
• Raj Babbar once said in a 1990 interview: 'Mithun is the only co-star who made me forget my lines because I was laughing so hard. He doesn't act — he plays.'
• Their only hit together, Hum Paanch (1980), directly inspired the 1985 Tamil film 'Naan Sigappu Manithan' — which was a remake. That Tamil version launched a young actor named Rajinikanth into a new action-hero phase. So Mithun and Babbar's pairing accidentally helped shape Rajini's career.
• Khiladi 786 (2012) was their reunion after 24 years. Mithun called Babbar personally and said, 'Come do this one scene with me. No money. Just for the old days.' Babbar flew in from Delhi, shot for one day, and left without even seeing the final cut.
