• Pandu and Meena first paired up in Idhaya Vaasal (1991) because the director saw them as a fresh contrast — his raw, intense energy against her soft, classical grace. No one had thought of putting them together before that.
• In Muthu (1995), Pandu’s comic timing forced Meena to drop her trained, measured delivery and react in real time. She later said he made her improvise on set, which she’d never done before.
• Muthu’s massive success in Japan (it ran for over a year in Tokyo) directly led to Japanese distributors seeking out other Pandu-Meena films. Shahjahan (2001) got a limited Japanese release because of their pairing.
• During the shoot of Nattamai (1994), Pandu would drive Meena home every night because she was nervous about late-night travel. They stayed close friends long after the films ended, and he was one of the first people she called when she got married.
• Meena once said in an interview: 'Pandu never treated me like a co-star. He treated me like a little sister. That’s why our fights on screen felt real — because we could actually yell at each other without ego.'
• In Villain (2002), their last film together, Pandu deliberately underplayed his scenes opposite Meena’s emotional outbursts. He told the director he wanted her pain to be the focus, not his reaction — a rare selfless move from a male lead.
