• Prabhu and Pandu first teamed up in 1988's 'En Uyir Kannamma' because director Mani Ratnam needed a fresh comic pair to balance the film's intense romance. Pandu was a stage actor with zero film experience; Prabhu, already a star, insisted on casting him after seeing him in a play.
• In 'Chinna Thambi' (1991), Prabhu deliberately slowed down his dialogue delivery to match Pandu's natural stammer. That hesitation became the joke's rhythm — Pandu would start a line, Prabhu would finish it, and the audience would roar. They never rehearsed it; it just clicked on take one.
• Their 1990 film 'Kavalukku Kettikaran' directly inspired the template for the 'comic sidekick with a heart' in Tamil cinema. Director K. S. Ravikumar later admitted he wrote the character for Pandu in 'Super Kudumbam' (2001) specifically to recreate that same energy — and it bombed because Pandu was already past his prime.
• On the sets of 'Thalattu Ketkudhamma' (1991), Prabhu and Pandu had a running bet: whoever flubbed a line first had to buy the entire crew filter coffee from the nearest stall. Pandu lost 11 times in one day. Prabhu still jokes that Pandu funded his caffeine addiction for a month.
• Pandu once told a magazine: 'Prabhu would whisper the punchline to me just before the camera rolled. He knew I'd forget it if he told me earlier. That's why our timing looked so natural — he was literally feeding me the joke.'
• Their last film together, 'Charlie Chaplin' (2002), was supposed to launch a new comedy duo era. Instead, it flopped so hard that both actors stopped doing pure comedies for years. The film's failure directly killed the 'Prabhu-Pandu brand' — no producer would pair them again.
