• Raghuvaran and Charlie first shared screen space in Kai Naattu (1988), but their real breakthrough as a duo came the next year in Siva (1989). Director Amirtham cast them as the villain and his sidekick, and their back-and-forth banter became the film's surprise highlight — audiences walked out remembering the two of them more than the hero.
• In Amarkalam (1999), Raghuvaran played the cold, towering antagonist while Charlie was his jittery, comic henchman. The trick: Raghuvaran would deliberately pause mid-dialogue, forcing Charlie to fill the silence with nervous improvisation. That tension — the calm bully vs the panicked sidekick — became their signature rhythm across all eight films.
• Their pairing in Parthen Rasithen (2000) directly inspired director K. S. Ravikumar to cast them again as a villain-comic duo in the blockbuster Padayappa (1999) — though that film isn't in this list. Ravikumar later said he wrote the character of 'Narr' specifically because he wanted to see Raghuvaran and Charlie bounce off each other again.
• Off-screen, Raghuvaran and Charlie were close friends who lived in the same neighbourhood in Chennai during the 1990s. Charlie once recalled that Raghuvaran would drop by unannounced at his house at 2 AM, and they'd rehearse scenes for the next day's shoot over instant coffee — no script, just improv.
• Charlie once said in an interview: 'Raghuvaran was the only actor who could make me laugh even when the camera was rolling. He'd whisper something absurd in Tamil just before a take, and I'd have to bite my tongue to keep from breaking character.'
