• Chinni Jayanth and Charle first met on the set of Nallavan (1988) — but they weren't cast together. Charle was an assistant director on that film, and Jayanth was the lead comedian. Charle kept cracking jokes between shots, and Jayanth told the director: 'This guy should be in front of the camera, not behind it.' That conversation got Charle his first acting break.
• In Vaigasi Poranthachu (1990), Charle played a stammering sidekick while Jayanth played the fast-talking hero's friend. Jayanth deliberately slowed his own delivery in scenes with Charle so the stammer gag would land harder. He told Charle: 'I'll pause after your line, let the audience laugh, then I'll speak.' It became their signature rhythm.
• Their double-act in Mudhal Kural (1992) was so popular that the film's producer greenlit a spin-off comedy track for them in the same year's Endrum Anbudan. That spin-off track — where they play rival tea-stall owners — became the template for every 'two friends fighting over a girl' comedy in Tamil cinema for the next five years.
• On every film they did together, Charle would bring homemade snacks from his wife's kitchen and share them with Jayanth during lunch breaks. Jayanth later said: 'I never had to pack food when Charle was on set. He always had extra.' The ritual started on Idhaya Thamarai (1990) and continued until their last film together.
• Charle once said in a 2001 interview: 'Jayanth taught me that comedy is not about making people laugh — it's about making them wait for the laugh. He would hold a pause for three seconds, look at me, then deliver the punchline. I learned timing from watching his shoulder.'
