• Their 1969 film 'Kula Vilakku' directly inspired M. G. Ramachandran to cast Gemini in a similar father-son emotional drama two years later — a role that won Gemini his only Tamil Nadu State Film Award.
• Gopalakrishnan didn't just cast Gemini Ganesan in 'Karpagam' (1963) — he rewrote the entire script around Gemini's easy-going charm after seeing him in a stage play. The film became their first hit together and set the template for their next 12 films.
• On the sets of 'Chitthi' (1966), Gemini would deliberately flub his lines in the first take just to make Gopalakrishnan laugh. The director would then reset the scene, and Gemini would nail it in the second take — a ritual they kept for every film they made together.
• Gopalakrishnan and Gemini never socialized outside work. No phone calls, no dinners. But on the first day of every new film, Gemini would walk into the office, shake Gopalakrishnan's hand, and say, 'Same time, same place, boss.' That was their entire friendship.
• In 'Panama Pasama' (1968), Gopalakrishnan shot Gemini's emotional breakdown scene in one continuous 12-minute take — unheard of in Tamil cinema then. Gemini later said the director's silence between takes was what made him dig deeper into the character.
