• They first shared screen space in 'Rajendrudu Gajendrudu' (1993) because the director, S. V. Krishna Reddy, needed two actors who could play off each other's comic timing without stepping on each other's lines. Kota was the loud, physical comedian; Mallikarjuna was the deadpan foil. The director paired them deliberately after seeing them in separate stage plays.
• In 'Alibaba Aradajanu Dongalu' (1994), Kota would deliberately flub his lines in the first take to make Mallikarjuna laugh. Mallikarjuna never broke character — he'd just stare at Kota with a blank face until the director yelled cut. That tension became their signature: one trying to crack the other up, the other refusing to budge.
• On the sets of 'Nuvvu Vastavani' (2000), Kota and Mallikarjuna shared a room in a small lodge near the shoot location. Every night, Kota would narrate old film stories in his booming voice while Mallikarjuna silently ate his dinner. Mallikarjuna later said he never once asked Kota to stop — he just listened.
• Mallikarjuna Rao once said in an interview: 'Kota garu is like a firecracker. I am the matchbox. Alone, neither of us makes much noise. Together, we burst.' He said this while promoting 'Ammo Okato Tarikhu' (2000).
• Their double-act in 'Sakutumba Saparivara Sametam' (2000) directly inspired the comic duo format in the 2002 TV show 'Amrutham' — the writers admitted they modeled the bickering landlord-and-tenant dynamic after Kota and Mallikarjuna's on-screen push-and-pull.
• After 'Ayinda Leda' (2005), they never worked together again. No fight, no fallout — Mallikarjuna simply stopped getting offers that paired him with Kota. Kota never called to ask why. Mallikarjuna later told a friend: 'He probably thought I retired. I thought he was too busy. We were both wrong.'
