• They first met on the set of Vijeta (1982) because Rekha personally requested Amrish Puri for the role of her on-screen father. She had seen his stage work and insisted he was the only one who could play the stern patriarch.
• In Janbaaz (1986), Rekha and Amrish Puri shared a scene where she slaps him. Puri later said she actually hit him hard enough to leave a mark — and he loved it because it made the scene real. He told her never to hold back.
• Off-screen, Rekha called Amrish Puri 'Puri sahab' and he called her 'Rekha beti.' On the sets of Zubeidaa (2001), she would bring him homemade sweets because she knew he had a sweet tooth. He once joked she was trying to fatten him up for their scenes.
