Partnership facts

• Their first film together, Julai (2012), almost didn't happen. Director Trivikram Srinivas was casting for the role of the hero's uncle and initially considered a different actor. Tanikella Bharani recommended Rao Ramesh for the part, and Trivikram trusted his instinct. That one recommendation kicked off a nine-film partnership.
• In Ala Vaikunthapuramulo (2020), they played father and son. The scene where Rao Ramesh's character disowns Tanikella Bharani's character is the emotional core of the film. Rao Ramesh later said that Tanikella's silence in that scene made him cry for real — he couldn't stay in character because the grief felt too genuine.
• On the sets of Duvvada Jagannadham (2017), the two developed a ritual. Before every scene together, they would sit quietly for two minutes and just look at each other. No dialogue. No rehearsal. Just a shared silence to sync their energy. The crew called it 'the stare-down'.
• Their pairing in Ismart Shankar (2019) directly launched a new trend in Telugu cinema: the 'comedy villain duo'. Before this film, comic villains were rare. After audiences loved their back-and-forth banter, at least four other films in the next two years tried to replicate their dynamic — none succeeded.
• Rao Ramesh once said in an interview: 'Tanikella garu doesn't act. He just becomes the character. When I act opposite him, I have to forget my lines and just react. Otherwise, I look fake next to him.' He said this during the promotions of Srirastu Subhamastu (2016).
• In Bandipotu (2015), they played rivals. Tanikella Bharani's character was the slow, calculating schemer. Rao Ramesh's was the loud, impulsive one. The director said he wrote their scenes specifically so that Tanikella would set the pace and Rao Ramesh would react — a rhythm they never broke across all nine films.
