• They first shared screen space in Avan (1985), but neither was the lead. Director S. A. Chandrasekhar cast them as supporting characters in a film headlined by Vijayakanth. Nobody expected the duo to steal scenes — but they did, and Chandrasekhar immediately paired them again in Vesham (1985) the same year.
• Goundamani was the improviser; Arjun was the straight man who kept the scene on rails. In Padicha Pulla (1989), Goundamani would deliberately throw in unscripted lines during takes, and Arjun had to react without breaking character. That push-and-pull became their trademark — one unpredictable, one anchoring.
