Partnership facts

• In Dookudu (2011), Brahmanandam’s manic energy forced Rajiv Kanakala to play the straight man so tightly that his deadpan reactions became the joke’s second punchline. Rajiv later said he had to rehearse his lines three extra times just to not laugh on set.
• Their first film together, Raju Bhai (2007), almost didn’t happen. The director wanted a younger actor for Rajiv’s role, but Brahmanandam personally called the producer and said, “If you don’t take Rajiv, I’m walking.” That call sealed the deal.
• On the sets of Naayak (2013), Brahmanandam and Rajiv Kanakala shared a single vanity van for the entire shoot. They’d spend lunch breaks playing carrom and arguing over who got the last piece of biryani from the unit caterer.
• The success of their comic track in Dookudu (2011) directly inspired the makers of Naayak (2013) to write a dedicated 20-minute comedy subplot just for the two of them. That subplot became the most re-watched segment of the film on YouTube.
• Rajiv Kanakala once told a fan club: “Brahmanandam doesn’t act with you. He acts at you. You just have to survive the scene without breaking character. I failed twice in Dookudu — you can see me biting my lip in the final cut.”
