• In Yeh Desh (1984), Puri played the cold villain while Kapoor played his comic sidekick. Kapoor's slapstick timing gave Puri permission to go bigger and more theatrical — their scenes together feel like a masterclass in letting the straight man and the clown feed off each other.
• By the time they shot Beqabu (1996), Kapoor and Puri had become close enough that Kapoor would drive Puri to the set every morning. Puri never learned to drive, and Kapoor loved showing off his new car.
• They first met on the set of Yeh Desh (1984) because the director, Sikandar Khanna, deliberately cast two actors with completely opposite energies — Puri's booming menace and Kapoor's nervous comic relief — hoping the clash would create something unpredictable. It worked.
• Zubeidaa (2001) was the only film where they played on the same side — both as members of a royal family. That film directly launched Kapoor's daughter, Shraddha Kapoor, into the public eye (she played young Zubeidaa), and Puri personally recommended her to director Shyam Benegal.
• Shakti Kapoor once said in an interview: 'Amrish ji and I never needed to rehearse. He would just look at me with those eyes, and I would start stammering. That was our scene.'
