• Charlie was a struggling mimicry artist when Vaiyapuri spotted him at a stage show. Vaiyapuri insisted the director of Hello (1999) cast Charlie as the sidekick — that film became Charlie's first break in Tamil cinema.
• In Piriyadha Varam Vendum (2001), Vaiyapuri wrote the comedy track specifically around Charlie's real-life stammer. Charlie turned that speech pattern into a running gag — Vaiyapuri would pause mid-dialogue to let Charlie's stammer land the punchline.
• On the sets of Gemini (2002), Vaiyapuri and Charlie shared a room for 45 days. They'd rehearse scenes at 3 AM, waking each other up to try alternate punchlines. Charlie later said that's where they built their rhythm.
• Their double-act in Pammal K. Sambandam (2002) — where they played a bumbling detective duo — directly inspired the comedy track in the 2010 film Boss Engira Bhaskaran. Director M. Rajesh admitted he wrote the sidekick role for Santhanam after watching their timing.
• Charlie once said in an interview: 'Vaiyapuri doesn't just write lines for me. He writes pauses. He knows exactly where I'll breathe, where I'll blink. That's why our scenes never feel rehearsed.'
• In Papanasam (2015), their only serious film together, Vaiyapuri played a tense police officer and Charlie played a terrified villager. They deliberately avoided eye contact in every scene — Vaiyapuri said that silence between them was louder than any comedy they'd done.
