• They first met on the set of Insaaf Ki Awaaz (1986), but neither was the first choice. The director, S. A. Kader, originally wanted Sunny Deol and Sridevi. When that fell through, he paired two relative newcomers — and accidentally created one of Hindi cinema's most enduring jodis.
• Anil Kapoor once said Madhuri was the only co-star who could match his energy beat-for-beat. In Beta (1992), he deliberately sped up his dialogue delivery in the song 'Dhak Dhak Karne Laga' — and she matched him without missing a step. That song became a template for fast-paced romantic duets in the 90s.
• Their film Tezaab (1988) didn't just launch them as a pair — it directly inspired the Tamil remake 'Idhayam' (1991), which launched a whole new generation of Tamil romantic leads. The original 'Ek Do Teen' step is still taught in dance academies across South India.
• Off-screen, they had a running joke: every time they finished a film, Anil would tell Madhuri, 'Ab toh humari jodi pakki ho gayi' (Now our pair is confirmed). She'd roll her eyes. But when they reunited for Pukar (2000) after a four-year gap, he sent her a handwritten note: 'Pakki ho gayi, na?'
• Madhuri Dixit once said in an interview: 'Anil is the only actor who can make me laugh so hard during a scene that the director has to cut. He'd do something silly, I'd break character, and then he'd say, 'Good, now the shot is real.' That was his secret — he wanted me to forget the camera.'
