• Their first film together, Ellorum Innaattu Mannar (1960), almost didn't happen. Gemini Ganesan was initially hesitant to pair with Saroja Devi because she was just 22 and he was 40 — he thought the age gap would look awkward on screen. The director had to convince him by shooting a test scene.
• On set, Gemini Ganesan would deliberately flub his lines in the first take just to make Saroja Devi laugh and loosen up. She later said that his playful teasing helped her stop being nervous around a senior star — and that's why their scenes together felt so natural.
• Saroja Devi and Gemini Ganesan shared a close off-screen bond that lasted decades. She was one of the few actresses who attended his funeral in 2002, and she publicly said he was like a 'protective elder brother' to her throughout their 16-film journey.

• In their 1969 film Thamarai Nenjam, Gemini Ganesan insisted on a scene where Saroja Devi's character slaps him — unheard of for a male star at the time. He told the director it would make her character stronger and the audience would root for her. The scene became one of the most talked-about moments of the year.
