• Jaishankar was already a huge star when Rajinikanth was a newcomer. Their first film together, Gaayathri (1977), was a gamble — the director paired them because he wanted a young, raw energy to bounce off Jaishankar's established cool. Rajini later said he was nervous acting opposite his childhood idol.
• In Murattu Kaalai (1980), Jaishankar played the calm, authoritative father figure while Rajinikanth was the impulsive son. The trick was that Jaishankar deliberately slowed his dialogue delivery to let Rajini's fast, quirky style pop. That contrast became the template for their hits.
• On the sets of Garjanai (1981), Rajinikanth would quietly watch Jaishankar rehearse his lines alone. One day, Jaishankar pulled him aside and said, 'You don't need to copy me. You have your own rhythm.' Rajini later called that the best advice he ever got as a young actor.
• Their 1983 film Thaiveedu was the first Tamil movie where both male leads played brothers with equal screen time — no one was the sidekick. That film directly inspired the 'dual hero' trend in Tamil cinema, leading to movies like Sattam Oru Iruttarai and later Baasha's brotherhood arcs.
• Rajinikanth once said in a 1985 interview: 'Jaishankar sir taught me how to hold a pause. He could say more with silence than I could with a hundred words. I learned acting by watching him breathe.'
• After Maaveeran (1986) flopped, they never worked together again. But Rajinikanth quietly paid for Jaishankar's medical bills in the late 1990s when the senior actor fell on hard times. Jaishankar's family confirmed this years later — Rajini never spoke about it publicly.
