Partnership facts

• Their first film together, Raja Veetu Kannukutti (1984), was a children's film. Prabhu was already a star. Senthil was a stage actor making his debut. The director picked Senthil after seeing him in a play — Prabhu had no say in it.
• In Kanni Rasi (1985), Senthil played the comic sidekick while Prabhu was the romantic lead. Senthil's timing was so sharp that Prabhu started deliberately pausing his lines — just to give Senthil room to land a joke. That became their rhythm for the next 18 years.
• Prabhu and Senthil never hung out off-screen. No joint interviews, no social dinners. On set, they'd rehearse once, shoot, and leave. Senthil once said in a 1990s magazine chat that they 'only met in the frame.'
• Their 1989 film Ninaivu Chinnam (8/10) is still remembered for a single scene: Senthil's character trying to teach Prabhu's character how to dance. That scene directly inspired a similar bit in the 2005 hit Chandramukhi — the director admitted it.
• Senthil once told a fan club: 'Prabhu never made me feel like a sidekick. He'd slow down his dialogue if I was struggling. He didn't have to. He did it anyway.'
• In Uzhavan (1993), Prabhu played a farmer and Senthil played his friend. The director wanted Senthil to be purely comic relief. But Prabhu insisted Senthil get a serious scene — the one where he breaks down after a crop failure. That scene got Senthil his first solo applause in a theater.
