The 1990s belonged to Gaayam; the 2010s to Neeku Naaku Dash Dash. Tanikella Bharani acted in every film; Banerjee acted in all of them. Strictly Telugu cinema — they never crossed industries together.

Partnership facts

• Their first film together, Bombay Priyudu (1996), was a disaster. But Banerjee saw something in Tanikella Bharani's comic timing and insisted they work together again. That second chance gave us Nuvvu Nenu (2001).
• In Mr & Mrs Sailaja Krishnamurthy (2004), Banerjee played the straight-laced husband while Tanikella Bharani was the chaotic friend. Bharani would deliberately flub his lines to make Banerjee break character — and the director kept those takes because Banerjee's genuine laughter made the scenes feel real.
• Their 2012 film Neeku Naaku Dash Dash was a flop, but it directly inspired the comedy track in the 2014 blockbuster Manam. The director of Manam, Vikram K. Kumar, has said he watched Dash Dash's banter scenes to study how two older actors could carry a lighthearted subplot.
• On the sets of Shamantakamani (2017), Tanikella Bharani and Banerjee shared a room during the outdoor shoot in Araku Valley. They spent nights rewriting each other's dialogues — Banerjee would polish the Telugu, Bharani would punch up the comedy.
• Banerjee once said in an interview: 'Tanikella Bharani is the only actor who can make me forget my lines because I'm laughing so hard. We never rehearsed — we just trusted each other to catch whatever the other threw.'
• In Krishna Rao Supermarket (2019), their last film together, Banerjee played a grumpy shop owner and Tanikella Bharani played his nosy customer. The entire climax scene was improvised — they shot it in one take because both actors kept adding new jokes on the fly and the crew couldn't stop laughing.
