• Their first film together, Nishana (1980), was a last-minute replacement. Prem Chopra was originally cast as the main villain, but when the actor playing the second villain dropped out, Asrani was called in. They shot their first scene together without a single rehearsal — and the director kept the first take in the final cut.
• In Ek Aur Ek Gyarah (1981), Prem Chopra played the straight-faced, menacing villain while Asrani played the comic sidekick. Chopra later admitted in an interview that Asrani’s timing forced him to slow down his own delivery — because if he rushed his lines, Asrani’s punchline would land flat. They developed a silent hand signal on set to pace each other.
• Their pairing in Mawaali (1983) directly inspired the villain-comic duo template for the 1990s TV show 'Chandrakanta' — the writers said they wanted a 'Prem Chopra-Asrani energy' for the characters of Badrinath and Somnath.
• Despite playing enemies on screen, Prem Chopra and Asrani were close friends off it. During the shoot of Charnon Ki Saugandh (1988), Asrani’s mother was hospitalized. Prem Chopra drove him to the hospital every night after pack-up, and even stood in for Asrani’s close-up shots the next morning so the director wouldn’t notice.
• Asrani once said about Prem Chopra: 'He is the only villain who would rehearse with me even when I wasn't in the scene. He'd stand behind the camera and mouth my lines so I could get the rhythm right.'
• In Rakhwala (1989), they played brothers for the first and only time — one good, one evil. Prem Chopra insisted on swapping roles mid-shoot because he felt Asrani's comic energy would make the villain more unpredictable. The director agreed, and the film's climax was rewritten overnight to accommodate the switch.
