The 1980s belonged to Soorakottai Singakutti; the 1990s to Naalaiya Theerpu. Radha Ravi acted in every film; S. S. Chandran acted in all of them. Strictly Tamil cinema — they never crossed industries together.

Partnership facts

• Their first film together, Soorakottai Singakutti (1983), was a low-budget village drama. Neither was a star yet. They were cast because the director needed two actors who could handle both comedy and action — and they ended up improvising half their scenes together on set.
• Radha Ravi was the loud, aggressive one in their scenes. S. S. Chandran played the nervous, stammering foil. Chandran would deliberately flub his lines to make Radha Ravi react naturally — and Radha Ravi would then escalate his anger, creating a back-and-forth that felt real. They never rehearsed. They just went at each other.
• Their 1987 film Uzhavan Magan was the first Tamil movie to feature a comedic duo as the main antagonists who also provided comic relief. That template — villain + comedy in one package — was later copied by dozens of 90s masala films.
• On the sets of Vai Pandhal (1984) — the film that scored a 1/10 — the two got into a real fight over a dialogue delivery. They didn't speak for three days. Then the director locked them in a room until they made up. They came out laughing and finished the film in one take.
• After Puthiya Aatchi (1995), they never worked together again. No fallout — just drifted apart. Radha Ravi moved into politics. Chandran kept acting in smaller roles. They never publicly acknowledged the other's absence. Their last joint film ended their partnership without a goodbye scene.
