• Their first film together, Jaani Dost (1983), was a gamble. Kader Khan was already a big name as a writer and character actor. Asrani was still finding his footing after Sholay. The director, K. Pappu, paired them specifically to create a comic duo that could match the film's action-heavy tone — and it worked well enough to spawn 14 more films.
• On set, Kader Khan would often write new lines on the spot, and Asrani would adjust his timing to match. Asrani once said in an interview that Kader's dialogue delivery was so rhythmic that he had to 'dance around his words' to keep up. That push-and-pull made their comic scenes feel like a tennis match.
• Their 1990 film Baap Numbri Beta Dus Numbri — a comedy about a conman father and his naive son — directly inspired the 1998 Pakistani film Choorian, which became one of the highest-grossing Punjabi films ever. The plot structure and the father-son comic dynamic were lifted almost scene-for-scene.
• Off-screen, they were total opposites. Kader Khan was a quiet, scholarly man who wrote poetry in Urdu. Asrani was loud, hyper, and loved cracking jokes between takes. But they shared a ritual: before every scene, they'd shake hands and say 'Chal, kuch naya karte hain' (Come on, let's try something new).
• Asrani once said about Kader Khan: 'He could make me laugh with just a raised eyebrow. I didn't need to act — I just reacted to him.' He said this in a 2017 interview with The Indian Express, recalling their work on Himmatwala.
• In Pataal Bhairavi (1985), a fantasy film, they played a bumbling magician and his assistant. Kader Khan wrote the entire comic track himself, and Asrani improvised most of his physical comedy — including a scene where he accidentally sets his own turban on fire. The director kept the take because Asrani's genuine panic was too good to reshoot.
