• Their first film together, Motor Sundaram Pillai (1966), was a comedy where Nagesh played the lead and Sivakumar played a supporting role. Sivakumar was just two films old at the time, and Nagesh was already a star. The director, A. P. Nagarajan, paired them because he wanted Nagesh's comic timing to balance Sivakumar's raw, earnest screen presence.
• In Agathiyar (1972), Nagesh played the sage Agathiyar and Sivakumar played his disciple. The film required Sivakumar to deliver long, devotional monologues while Nagesh controlled the rhythm with his pauses and expressions. Sivakumar later said Nagesh would deliberately slow down his own dialogue delivery so Sivakumar could catch his breath and match the scene's emotional weight.
• Their 1974 film Engamma Sabadham was one of the earliest Tamil films to feature a mother-son emotional conflict as the central plot. It directly influenced later family dramas like Samsaram Athu Minsaram (1986), which also leaned on a strong maternal figure and a son torn between duty and love.
• Sivakumar was a huge fan of Nagesh's comedy before they ever acted together. On the sets of Motor Sundaram Pillai, Sivakumar would sit quietly and watch Nagesh rehearse his lines alone. Nagesh noticed this and started inviting Sivakumar to run lines with him before every take — a habit they kept for all 12 films.
• Sivakumar once said in a 2002 interview: 'Nagesh sir taught me that acting is not about shouting louder than the other person. It is about listening. He would listen to me on set like I was the senior artiste. That humility made me a better actor.'
• In Poovellam Un Vasam (2001), their final film together, Nagesh played a grandfather and Sivakumar played his son. The film was a romantic drama, but the scenes between them were entirely improvised. Nagesh would throw in random Tamil proverbs, and Sivakumar had to react in real time — no retakes allowed. The director let them do this because he knew their 35-year rapport would carry the scene.
