• Their first film together, 'Genesis' (1968), was a short film by Shabana's father Kaifi Azmi. Naseeruddin was a struggling FTII grad; Shabana was already a star. He later said she intimidated him on set.
• In 'Sparsh' (1980), Naseer played a blind man. Shabana deliberately avoided eye contact with him during scenes — she said it forced her to listen with her whole body, making their silences louder than dialogue.
• Their pairing in 'Mandi' (1983) directly inspired Shyam Benegal to cast them again as a mismatched couple in 'Paar' (1984). That film later became a reference point for Mira Nair's 'Salaam Bombay!' — Nair cited its raw realism.
• During the disastrous shoot of 'Ek Pal' (1986), Naseer and Shabana would escape the chaos by playing chess between takes. They never finished a single game — both were too competitive to let the other win.
• Shabana once said: 'With Naseer, I never had to act. I just had to react. He gave me the rhythm.' She said this in a 2007 interview about their last film together, 'Dus Kahaniyaan'.
• In 'Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyoon Aata Hai' (1980), Naseer improvised a long, silent stare at Shabana during a fight scene. She didn't break character — she stared back until the director yelled cut. That take made it into the final film.
