Brahmanandam and Mukesh Rishi appeared together in 27 Telugu films between 1994 and 2025. Their highest-rated collaboration was Nenunnanu (2004 — 7.5/10). Films span Gandeevam (1994) through Kannappa (2025).
The Brahmanandam & Mukesh Rishi partnership
Their work runs across 4 decades of Telugu cinema. After 8 years apart, they came back together for Guntur Kaaram (2024). 2009 was their peak — 4 films in twelve months.
They didn't share a set between 2016 and 2024. For 31 years, a Brahmanandam–Mukesh film arrived almost every year.
The shape of the work
The 1990s belonged to Gandeevam; the 2020s to Guntur Kaaram. Brahmanandam acted in every film; Mukesh Rishi acted in all of them. Strictly Telugu cinema — they never crossed industries together.
Partnership facts
- Their first film together, Palnati Brahmanayudu (2003), was a massive multi-starrer. Brahmanandam was already a legend, but Mukesh Rishi was still finding his footing in Telugu. The director B. Gopal deliberately paired them in comic scenes to test if Mukesh could keep up with Brahmanandam's timing. He passed.
- In Loukyam (2014), Brahmanandam played a hyperactive sidekick while Mukesh Rishi played the stoic villain. The trick was simple: Brahmanandam would rattle off three rapid-fire jokes, then pause and look at Mukesh. Mukesh would just glare back without blinking. That silence got more laughs than any dialogue.
- On the sets of Kantri (2008), Mukesh Rishi once forgot his lines during a comic scene with Brahmanandam. Instead of yelling, Brahmanandam whispered the lines to him from behind the camera. After that, Mukesh started calling him 'guru' on set. They kept that tradition for every film after.
- Their 2015 film Loafer flopped at the box office, but their comic track in it became a cult favorite on YouTube. Years later, director Puri Jagannadh admitted he wrote a scene in his 2019 film iSmart Shankar directly inspired by their 'doctor-patient' bit from Loafer.
- Mukesh Rishi once said in an interview: 'Brahmanandam garu doesn't just make you laugh. He makes you a better actor. When I act opposite him, I have to be completely silent and still — because if I move even a little, the audience will miss his joke.'
- After a 8-year gap, they reunited for Guntur Kaaram (2024). The director Trivikram specifically wrote a scene where Mukesh Rishi's character has to react to Brahmanandam's nonsense without speaking a word. That scene became a meme within a week of the film's release.
