Partnership facts

• Their first film together, Varasudu (1993), almost didn't happen. Nagarjuna personally requested Brahmanandam for the role after seeing his work in a small comedy track. Brahmanandam was hesitant because the role was small, but Nagarjuna convinced him it would be a scene-stealer.
• In Manmadhudu (2002), Brahmanandam's character was written as a straight man to Nagarjuna's arrogant Casanova. But on set, Brahmanandam kept improvising one-liners that made Nagarjuna break character mid-scene. The director finally told Brahmanandam to just go wild — and Nagarjuna had to work twice as hard to keep a straight face.
• Their 2016 hit Soggade Chinni Nayana directly revived the 'family entertainer with a supernatural twist' genre in Telugu cinema. The film's success led to a wave of similar films like Anando Brahma and Raja The Great, all trying to copy the Nagarjuna-Brahmanandam comic-relief formula.
• Brahmanandam has never called Nagarjuna by his name on set. For 26 years, he has addressed him only as 'Nagarjuna garu' — a mark of respect that started on day one of Varasudu and never changed, even after they became close friends.
• Brahmanandam once said in an interview: 'Nagarjuna garu is the only hero who never once complained about me stealing the scene. He would actually tell the director, 'Let him do his thing — that's what people pay for.'
• In their 2017 film Om Namo Venkatesaya, Nagarjuna played a saintly devotee — a role with zero comedy. Brahmanandam played a comic temple priest. The trick they used: Brahmanandam would deliver his lines in a deadpan, serious tone, while Nagarjuna would react with subtle, almost invisible smiles. It created a silent comedy rhythm that critics called 'the most underrated double act of the year.'
